In 2006, a member from our church approached us about recording an album that would incorporate the praise team and some of the songs we do for worship at Westminster.  Excited about the idea, we began working on what would be the track list and organizing the praise team members that would be recorded. But every time we thought we were breaking through the brainstorm…we ran into a dead end. It became clear that the Lord simply did not want us to go in this direction.

Later that year, Matt Holtzman (our previous Director of Contemporary Music) began to sing regularly with the choir during the traditional service. During that time, he was exposed to many great hymns of the faith in a style he was not used to…but began to be attracted to. The call and response of Biblical liturgy in that service began to strengthen and fortify an overall worship experience.  Affirmations of faith such as The Apostles’ Creed and The Nicene Creed routinely reminded us of where our faith truly lies. During those months, Matt found his “scope” of worship being broadened.

And then suddenly, the vision was expanded…and a breakthrough in purpose behind a music album was birthed.

FOUNDATION is a compilation of songs which point us toward the ultimate Reason for why we worship as the Church. It is the eclectic representation of how we worship at Westminster. While different in style…our song is one in purpose.

Jesus told us that “a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks” (John 4). Whether you are 8 years old or 88, we all sing the same song to our Lord. It is the song of spirit and truth that rises out of a heart of gratitude in knowing what God has done for us.

As you listen to the music on this CD, it is our prayer that you might find yourself being caught up in the greatness of our Lord Jesus Christ and that you might find joy in worshipping Him.
